Nairobi, Kenya | October 28, 2026 — Sudan has condemned the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over alleged mass killings and other atrocities committed against civilians in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, calling on the international community to take concrete action to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

Speaking on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Sudanese Embassy in Nairobi to mark the first anniversary of the fall of El Fasher, Sudanese Ambassador to Kenya Kamal Gubara Mohamed accused the paramilitary group of committing what he described as genocidal acts against the city’s civilian population following an 18-month siege.

“On this solemn occasion, the Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan in Nairobi condemns in the strongest possible terms the genocidal acts committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against the civilian population of El Fasher,” Ambassador Gubara Mohamed said.

The RSF seized El Fasher on October 26, 2025, following months of siege during which civilians were reportedly deprived of food, medicine and other essential supplies.

The takeover was followed by mass killings, attacks on patients in hospitals, and the rape and sexual abuse of women and girls.

Sudan Calls for Accountability Over El Fasher Atrocities

Sudan has urged the international community to move beyond issuing statements of condemnation and take decisive measures against those allegedly responsible for the atrocities, including individuals and entities accused of supporting or enabling the crimes.

“The Government of the Republic of the Sudan calls upon the international community to move beyond expressions of condemnation and take effective measures to ensure that those responsible for these crimes, as well as those who support and enable them, are held accountable,” Gubara Mohamed said.

The country also called for urgent international efforts to protect civilians, facilitate humanitarian assistance and prevent further atrocities as the conflict continues to affect communities across Sudan.

“The protection of civilians, the provision of humanitarian assistance and the prevention of further atrocities must remain urgent international priorities,” he added.

Gubara Mohamed also cited findings by the United Nations Human Rights Office indicating that more than 6,000 killings had been documented during the first three days of the RSF’s final offensive in El Fasher.

Victims Remembered One Year After the Attack

As Sudan marked the first anniversary of the events in El Fasher, the country paid tribute to those killed and expressed solidarity with their families and the wider Sudanese population continuing to bear the consequences of the war.

“We honour the memory of the victims of El Fasher and stand in solidarity with their families and all Sudanese people who continue to endure the consequences of this war,” Ambassador Gubara Mohamed said.

The commemoration came amid continued calls for accountability over alleged violations against civilians and renewed appeals for greater international attention to the humanitarian situation in Sudan.

Sudan Reaffirms Commitment to Civilian Protection

Sudan said the anniversary served as a reminder of the urgent need to safeguard civilians, ensure humanitarian assistance reaches affected communities and hold perpetrators of serious crimes accountable.

The country reiterated that responsibility should extend beyond those who allegedly carried out the atrocities to include individuals and entities accused of supporting or enabling them.

Sudan maintained that civilian protection and humanitarian assistance must remain central to international efforts to address the crisis, while calling for effective measures to prevent further abuses and ensure justice for the victims of El Fasher.
