Mobility Boost: Spiro Opens Westlands Mega Station as Battery-Swapping Capacity Rises to 200 Bikes

NAIROBI, Kenya|August 2026 - Electric mobility company Spiro has expanded its battery-swapping network in Nairobi with the launch of a new Mega Station in Westlands, increasing the facility’s capacity from approximately 40–50 motorcycles to up to 200 bikes at a time.

The expansion is aimed at addressing the growing demand for electric motorcycles in Kenya while reducing the time riders spend waiting to access charged batteries.

The new facility is expected to enable more riders to swap depleted batteries quickly, helping them minimise downtime and spend more time on the road.

Spiro Expands Battery-Swapping Infrastructure

Spiro said the Westlands Mega Station forms part of its wider strategy to develop an efficient electric mobility ecosystem in Kenya.

The company’s battery-swapping model allows electric motorcycle riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones within minutes, providing a faster alternative to waiting for batteries to recharge.

As the number of electric motorcycles on Kenyan roads continues to increase, reliable access to energy infrastructure is becoming increasingly important to riders who depend on their motorcycles for daily mobility and income.

The Westlands station has therefore been designed to handle significantly higher volumes of riders and reduce congestion at battery-swapping points.

More Stations Planned Across Nairobi

Spiro plans to continue expanding its battery-swapping network across Nairobi and other parts of Kenya as it seeks to bring energy infrastructure closer to riders.

The expansion comes as Kenya accelerates efforts to promote cleaner forms of transportation, with electric two-wheelers emerging as an important part of the country's transition to electric mobility.

Spiro said its expansion strategy is aligned with Kenya’s National Electric Mobility Policy, which identifies electric two-wheelers as a leading segment in the country’s early transition to electric mobility.

The company also plans to work with stakeholders in the transport and energy sectors to expand charging and battery-swapping infrastructure.

Davido-Linked Electric Motorcycles Enter Kenyan Market

The Westlands Mega Station launch also comes as Spiro continues to broaden its electric vehicle portfolio and raise awareness around electric mobility.

The company recently unveiled a new generation of electric vehicles developed in collaboration with Nigerian music star and entrepreneur Davido, including the Davido Collectible and Alpha+ by Davido.

The Davido-branded motorcycle is expected to become available for retail in Kenya soon, adding a lifestyle and entertainment dimension to the country’s growing electric mobility market.

Spiro Targets Wider Electric Mobility Network

Spiro says its long-term ambition is to develop an electric mobility network that is convenient, accessible and affordable for everyday riders.

The company has deployed more than 100,000 electric vehicles and 2,500 smart battery-swapping stations across its markets.

The Westlands Mega Station represents another step in the company’s expansion strategy, with additional stations expected to come up in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya.

For riders, the expansion is expected to translate into greater access to charged batteries, shorter waiting times and reduced downtime as electric motorcycles become increasingly common on Kenyan roads.
