Nairobi, Kenya | May 31, 2026 — Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader and United Alternative Government principal, Kalonzo Musyoka, has raised concerns over the potential threat of Ebola entering Kenya, urging the government to prioritize national interests and strengthen border surveillance to protect citizens from the deadly disease.

Dr. Mathews Kalola Mwalwa at AIC Karen Chapel in Nairobi, Kalonzo said the opposition coalition plans to engage United States representatives in an urgent and candid discussion on the matter, stressing that Kenya must take decisive steps to safeguard its citizens from potential health risks.
"The position we want to take as the United Alternative Government is that on Tuesday, we will be meeting the American Chargé d'Affaires to have a thorough and honest conversation because I associate myself with the sentiments that have been expressed by my colleagues here," Kalonzo said.
The former Vice President argued that every nation acts in accordance with its own national interests and that Kenya should do the same when dealing with public health threats.
"What is always permanent is national interest, and America has been acting in its best national interest. Therefore, Kenya's national interest must also be clearly articulated so that our people do not suffer because of recklessness," he stated.
The Wiper leader questioned the country's preparedness to handle possible Ebola-related risks, particularly at border entry points, and expressed concern over reports that neighboring countries were taking stricter precautionary measures.
"Let this disease never even reach Kenya. If Uganda has closed its border, as my brother has said, how is it that we are still allowing people, even those showing symptoms, to enter the country?" he posed.
His remarks come amid growing public concern over regional disease surveillance and the movement of people across East African borders, with health experts continuing to emphasize the importance of screening, monitoring, and rapid response mechanisms to prevent outbreaks.
Beyond the Ebola issue, Kalonzo also criticized what he described as the misuse of public resources, accusing a section of leaders of enriching themselves at the expense of ordinary taxpayers.
"Your taxes have gone into a selected few wallets to bankroll their next collection of watches and designer suits," he said, while also alleging illegal land acquisitions and injustices against citizens.
The opposition leader further called for reforms within religious institutions, arguing that the church must regain public trust, particularly among younger generations.
"We must take the next step decisively for the church to regain the confidence of Gen Zs," he said, adding that many young people have become disillusioned with religious leaders whom they perceive as being too closely aligned with political interests.
Kalonzo concluded by calling for justice and accountability in the country, saying these principles remain essential for restoring public confidence in national institutions.
The Wiper Party leader, accompanied by DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, described Rev. Mwalwa as a respected servant of God whose humility, dedication, and service to both the church and the community have left a lasting impact.
They praised his unwavering commitment to ministry and the values he upheld throughout his years of service. The leaders also congratulated him on his remarkable achievements in ministry, noting that he is the founding father of AIC Karen and has played a pivotal role in the church's growth and development.
