No Time To Rest: Inside President Ruto’s Four-Day Development Tour of the Coast Region

- President William Ruto has embarked on a major Coast region development tour targeting key sectors of the economy.
- Several infrastructure, housing, electricity, and market projects are expected to be launched and inspected across coastal counties.
- The visit also highlights government efforts to address land ownership challenges and strengthen the blue economy.
President William Ruto has kicked off a four-day development tour of the Coast region, just hours after returning from official visits to Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

During the tour, the Head of State is expected to launch, inspect, and commission several major government projects across the coastal counties as part of the administration’s ongoing development agenda.
President Ruto recently travelled to Baku, where he highlighted Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme during international engagements before proceeding to Kazakhstan for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
Inside President Ruto’s Coast Tour
The President’s Coast tour will focus on infrastructure development, electricity connectivity, affordable housing, land ownership, education, and the blue economy.
One of the key highlights of the visit will be the launch of an accelerated title deed issuance programme at Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa. The programme targets residents across the Coast region and aims to address long-standing land ownership disputes that have affected many families for years.
In Lamu County, President Ruto is expected to commission the completed Kizingitini Fish Market in Lamu East Constituency, inspect the Hindi Modern Market in Lamu West, and break ground for the Safirisi–Ndeu road project.
The President will also launch last-mile electricity connectivity projects in Hindi and other parts of the Coast region to improve access to electricity in rural communities.
While in Kwale County, the Head of State is set to launch electricity connectivity projects in Kinango, Lunga Lunga, and Diani in Msambweni Constituency.
He will also commission the Diani Modern Market and preside over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of student hostels at Lunga Lunga Technical and Vocational College.
In Kilifi County, President Ruto is expected to commission the Mariakani Power Sub-Station in Kaloleni Constituency and launch electricity projects in Malindi, Ganze, Mariakani, and Mjanaheri.
He will also break ground for the construction of the Tezo–Kakanjuni road in Kilifi North and oversee the upgrade of the Mjanaheri–Ngomeni road in Magarini Constituency.
Additionally, the President is expected to lay foundation stones for modern markets in Kaloleni, Ganze, and Nyali, alongside the planned Kilifi Stadium in Kilifi Town.
In Tana River County, President Ruto will lay the foundation stone for the proposed Garsen Teachers Training College and launch the Minjila Affordable Housing Project in Garsen.
The President is also expected to inspect the Nyali VoK Affordable Housing Project in Mombasa as part of the government’s broader housing agenda.
As part of efforts to strengthen the blue economy, President Ruto will hand over fishing boats to local groups in Malindi to support fishing activities and improve livelihoods among coastal communities.
The tour comes as the government seeks to fast-track development projects, improve service delivery, and strengthen economic growth across the Coast region and the country at large.
