The Kenyan side produced a composed and clinical performance to secure a 3–0 victory in Pool D, winning all three sets 25–19, 25–19, and 25–19.
KCB controlled the contest from the outset, using strong serves, solid blocking, and quick attacking transitions to keep the Nigerian side under constant pressure throughout the match.
The Bankers showed their continental experience, maintaining defensive discipline while capitalising on unforced errors from VPC. Their attacking unit remained sharp across all three sets, consistently pulling away whenever the Nigerians attempted to close the gap.
In the opening set, KCB established an early lead through powerful spikes and organised court coverage before comfortably closing it out 25–19.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with VPC attempting to mount a mid-set comeback. However, KCB responded with improved serving and aggressive net play to maintain control and again seal the set 25–19.
In the third set, the Kenyan side remained relentless, refusing to allow their opponents any momentum. KCB’s consistency in attack and defence proved decisive as they wrapped up the match with another 25–19 win to complete a flawless straight-sets victory.
The result gives KCB an important early boost in Pool D as they seek to advance to the knockout stages and strengthen their bid for another continental title.
Inside Look at the KCB Women’s Volleyball Team
The KCB Women’s Volleyball Team is widely regarded as one of the oldest volleyball clubs in Kenya, having been established in 1989.
The team competes in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) League and regularly represents the country in continental competitions, including the African Club Championship.

Over the years, the squad has developed a strong tradition of producing top-tier talent, with several players going on to represent Kenya’s national women’s team, the Malkia Strikers, in international competitions.
The current team is built on a blend of experience, tactical discipline, and a balanced mix of attacking and defensive strength, making it a formidable force both locally and on the continental stage.
In attack, the team is led by seasoned campaigner Mercy Moim, the former national team captain, whose leadership and offensive power remain central to KCB’s frontline.
She is supported by a versatile group of attackers, including Juliana Namutira, Sharleen Maywa, Deborah Jesang, Belinda Barasa, Pauline Chemtai, Sharon Serem, Lincy Jeruto, Josephine Wafula, Malyne Terry, and Esther Mutinda. This rotation of outside and opposite hitters provides multiple scoring options across different formations and match situations.
Defensively, the team is anchored by libero Josephine Kataa, whose role is crucial in stabilising serve reception and strengthening backcourt coverage. Her consistency allows the setters to build structured and efficient attacking plays from the backcourt.
In the middle, Mildred Cherop provides strength at the net with solid blocking ability and quick transition attacks, adding balance between defence and frontline offence.
Her international experience, including a stint in the United Arab Emirates, further enhances the team’s depth and composure in high-pressure matches.
The team is guided from the technical bench by head coach Japheth Munala, assisted by David Kinga, under the strategic oversight of Technical Director Paul Bitok.
The wider technical bench includes team manager Marvin Tuikong, team doctor Simon Kibe, strength and conditioning coach Esau Otieno, and trainer Eunice Mayo, all working together to maintain peak performance throughout the season and during international assignments.
However, the squad is without experienced captain Edith Wisa, whose absence removes a key leadership presence on the court and a significant source of experience in high-level competition.
What Next for the Bankers?
Following their victory, the Bankers will next face either Litto Team Volleyball of Cameroon or ARSU Ladies of Seychelles in their upcoming fixture.
