NAIROBI, Kenya, April 21, 2026 – The Jubilee Party has called for opposition unity ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election following the death of former area Member of Parliament David Kiaraho.

In a press briefing issued on Wednesday afternoon at the party headquarters, Secretary General Hon. Moitalel Ole Kentai said the party remains committed to preserving the late legislator’s legacy while also strengthening opposition unity in the constituency.

Kiaraho, who served as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency on a Jubilee Party ticket, was described by the party as a humble and dedicated leader whose life was defined by service and close ties with the people.

The Jubilee Party announced that it will field a candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, maintaining that the seat rightfully belongs to the party, having previously been held by one of its members.

The party also assured residents that it would conduct free, fair, and transparent nominations that reflect democratic values and the will of the people.

“The Party will field a candidate in the upcoming Ol Kalou by-election, in line with the fact that the position was previously held by a member of the Jubilee Party. The Party further assures its members and the entire people of Ol Kalou Constituency of free, fair, and transparent nominations that reflect democratic values and the will of the people,” Kentai said.

At the same time, Jubilee appealed to its coalition partners to support the fielding of a single opposition candidate under its banner in the by-election, saying the move would strengthen the opposition and present a united front.

“In the spirit of building a credible, united, and formidable alternative government, and in response to the growing call by Kenyans for opposition unity, the Jubilee Party respectfully urges our coalition partners to support the fielding of a single opposition candidate under the Jubilee Party banner in the upcoming by-election,” Kentai added.

The party argued that Kenyans are increasingly calling for opposition leaders to work together instead of competing against one another, noting growing demand for cooperation, solidarity, and long-term political strategy.

Jubilee further noted that it has consistently supported opposition unity in previous by-elections. It pointed to Mbeere North Constituency and its ward elections, where it stepped aside in favour of a common candidate, as well as the recent Emurua Dikirr by-election in Narok County, where opposition parties agreed to back a single candidate.

“Jubilee Party has consistently demonstrated its commitment to opposition unity through deliberate and strategic action. In Mbeere North Constituency and its ward elections, we stepped aside to support a unified front, out of the conviction that unity is our greatest strength. As partners in the United Alternative Government, we must remain faithful to this precedent, which we have continued to uphold in subsequent by-elections, most recently in Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, where we collectively agreed on a single opposition candidate,” Kentai said.

According to the party, the strategy is aimed at building a stronger and more credible alternative government ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Jubilee also clarified that it plans to field candidates in all elective positions across the country during the 2027 General Election, including Members of County Assembly (MCA), Members of Parliament (MP), Senators, Governors, Woman Representatives, and the Presidency.

The Ol Kalou seat fell vacant following the death of area MP David Kiaraho on March 29, 2026. He was buried on April 10, 2026, in Kiambu County.

The late MP was serving his third term after winning the 2022 General Election on a Jubilee Party ticket, where he garnered 24,058 votes against UDA’s Samuel Kamau Ngotho, who polled 19,380 votes.
